Elon Musk has intensified his criticism of Starmer regarding the grooming gangs controversy, asserting that the Prime Minister is “complicit in mass rapes in exchange for votes.”
The exchange between the two escalated on Monday when Starmer accused the tech entrepreneur of “spreading lies.”
Starmer contended that those advocating for a national inquiry into grooming gangs were merely attempting to “capitalize on a far-Right agenda.”
In response, Mr. Musk took to his X platform, stating: “Starmer was deeply complicit in the mass rapes in exchange for votes. That’s what the inquiry would reveal.”
He further described Starmer as “utterly despicable.”
Starmer, who held the position of director of public prosecutions from 2008 to 2013, defended his tenure, asserting during a press conference after a speech on NHS reform that he had confronted the issue “directly.”
He noted that during his time as DPP, he had “reopened cases that had been previously closed and supposedly resolved. I initiated the first significant prosecution of an Asian grooming gang in Rochdale, which set a precedent for many subsequent cases.”
Mr. Musk has criticized the Government for its refusal to conduct a public inquiry into historical sexual abuse by grooming gangs in Oldham.
In turn, Starmer suggested that Mr. Musk was “desperate for attention,” stating: “Those who disseminate lies and misinformation widely are not concerned with victims; they are focused on their own interests.”
